Research, development and much more.

Research.
Development.
Problem solving.
Project management.
High-fidelity collaboration.

Although R&D is our core offer, we’re more than a small research outfit. We are a one-stop research lab group, open-minded consultancy and a network of hand-picked specialists.

Looking to develop a product or service with our support, too? Nick is a strategist and entrepreneur and would be delighted to offer his financial and commercial expertise on top of the R&D we can deliver for you.

Our credentials

Precision and attention to detail

Tom has worked as a surveyor on some of the UK’s most technically demanding projects where the specifications were exacting.

These include UKHO hydrographic surveys, requiring data captured to IHO Order 1A, and various Network Rail civil engineering projects with tolerances of +/- 1 mm required.

This experience, combined with our fastidious attention to detail, means you can trust us to read the brief, nail the specification and deliver insights you can rely on.

Objective expertise

Our founder, Tom, has over 15 years of experience in scientific and commercial research. He has a PhD and six years postdoctoral experience as an R&D manager.

Co-founder and business development lead, Nick, has 20 years leadership experience as an entrepreneur, strategist, coach, trustee and non-executive director. He is an established specialist in creating value from new ideas.

We carefully pick our associates through a rigorous set of criteria including qualifications, research expertise and transparency. Objectivity, precision and nuance are integral to our business.

Professional affiliation

For The Love Of Mapping is a corporate member of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society. We actively contribute to the Society’s mission and we are coauthoring the official history of the society (1995 – present) in readiness for their 75th anniversary celebration.

Tom is an honorary research fellow at the University of Leicester and has maintained a professional relationship with the School of Geography, Geology and Environment since 2010.

We work at the ‘research coalface’

Research isn’t just a commercial service. We also support researchers through provision of training (for example we teach GIS and remote sensing to doctoral researchers) and informal mentorship.

Tom is Communications Editor for the International Journal of Remote Sensing (IJRS) and actively reviews research manuscripts for IJRS and Remote Sensing Letters.
