I’m Tom, founding director of the business. I’ve been making sense of geospatial data for a decade and a half – as a surveyor, consultant, postdoc and as a fully-salaried geospatial analyst.
I’ve also been mapping connections and joining dots commercially for a lot longer – in the family business, as a market researcher pre-University, and as an armchair ecologist.
I specialise in what I do – and it goes way beyond a ‘day job’. I love using my skills in mapping, problem solving and R&D to support clients across numerous industry sectors.
When you want specialist advice you probably want to hire someone who’s seen things go wrong then fixed them. On dry land, but also at sea.
Someone who’s so dedicated to their craft that they’ve happily given literal blood, sweat and tears to their work.
A man who’s worked for corporates, small businesses, Universities and himself, with ‘precision mapping’ the common thread linking it all.
That’s me.
I love it. I love mapping. That’s why For The Love Of Mapping exists today.

When a great plan comes together
Having worked as a sole trader for a few years, I realised I wanted to work on bigger projects, making a bigger difference. And I was tired of doing it all alone.
Enter Nick, an old friend and now brand new business partner!
Nick brings years of corporate leadership and entrepreneurial nous to balance my chaotic creativity. He’s as passionate about maps as I am, and just as excited about growing something special.
Together, we’re eager to ‘get sh*t done’ when it comes to all things mapping.
Mapping and much more
Our mapping offer includes GIS and cartography as a service, and standalone mapmaking for the love of it all.
We also offer remote sensing support on demand, and commission and undertake research and development behind the scenes. We share our knowledge through white papers and by offering bespoke training courses.
We’re passionate storytellers, too, and believe that maps are integral to any story involving a ‘what?’ and ‘where?’.
We’re multidisciplinary and we work closely with a number of associates across remote sensing, Earth sciences, geology and in consultancy generally.
We use traditional cartographic techniques along with contemporary remote sensing methods to create unique, bespoke maps and insight – whether for consultancy clients, research labs or to simply highlight the fascinating forces of nature.
